After placing a phone call, sending an email, or SMS I do not return to Contacto. Why?

This is standard behavior for all iPhone applications that place calls, send emails, or send SMSs. As of iPhone OS Version 3.1, Apple's SDK provides no other alternative. We apologize for the inconvenience; hopefully, this issue will be resolved in a future iPhone release. For now, we suggest that you add the Contacto application to the quick launch bar at the bottom of your iPhone screen (see Quick Start Guide for details on how to do this).

When placing a phone call, I get a confirmation dialog. Why?

This happens only on iPhones running Version 3.0 of the iPhone OS and it is application behavior that Apple has defined. The dialog does not appear in newer versions of the iPhone OS.

It looks like your smart suggestions do not work for me!

Our SmartSuggestion technology analyzes your Address Book and tries to find similar contacts to the ones you already have in your groups based on various criteria. Despite its sophistication, our algorithm has its limits and its success depends on the information present in your address book. Rest assured that we are working every day to make contacto smarter.

It takes too long for Contacto to start up. Can't you make it start faster?

The time it takes Contacto to launch is an area that we strive constantly to improve. Unfortunately there are limits to how fast an iPhone application can start, depending on the iPhone model and whether it has been jaibroken or not. Non-jailbroken iPhone users experience generally superior performance in applications.

I keep running out of memory when editing my contact's icons!

This problem has been reported for first generation iPhones (especially the jailbroken ones). Taking a new picture to update your contact icon can be expensive in terms of memory. You can edit your contacts directly in the iPhone Address Book to avoid this problem (rather than accessing it via Contacto).

Contacto crashes when trying to access a group or contact. What can I do?

You have encountered an extremely rare problem, a corrupt database. You should delete the offending group or contact and create it again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Help me! I cannot add more contacts or groups!

If you are using the free Contacto Lite app there is a limit of 20 contacts and 3 groups. Users that need to have more groups/contacts can upgrade to regular Contacto that has no limit for either groups, contacts per group or total contacts.

I deleted one of my contacts from the iPhone address book but its icon has not been deleted from Contacto although all the related data (phone numbers, email addresses, etc.) is gone. What is going on?

This is due to the way Contacto stores contact-related data, which is designed to strike a good compromise between features and performance. In order to remove the contact icon you need to delete it manually.

Why do you have 9 icons per page?

Contacto takes advantage of our visual memory, which for most of the people can easily remember about 10 different items. One Contacto screen can be instantly scanned by the eye and any of the 9 contacts can be selected. If you feel you can remember more, you can choose the 4x4 option and have 16 contacts per page.

Visual dialing is great but I don't have enough pictures in my contacts.

Use the contacto gallery or pictures from your photo album if your contact has no picture. Contacto's gallery will be expanded with additional icons in future versions. Even if you have no picture corresponding to a person, you could choose some symbol that you can find in anyone of your photo album pictures: for example a bulb could represent a clever friend of yours, a flower could remind you of your cousin, a bootle of beer a friend, etc.

Which icon should I use for a group of contacts? I am running out of ideas!

When it comes to groups, you can use a similar principle as with contacts. You can use the contacto gallery for group icons. You can choose among family, relatives, colleagues, work, bodies, friends, icons etc.). You can further customize them with color selection.

Any part of a picture from your photo album would also do, provided it has some relationship with the group. The picture of your house could represent family, the logo of your company could represent work, etc. You probably have already a picture in your photo album related to this group, so just scan it!

I just upgraded from Contacto Lite to Contacto. Is there a way to transfer my groups and settings from Contacto Lite to Contacto?

Transferring data between Contacto Lite and Contacto is not yet possible. We are working on this feature for future releases.
